Genre Research: Comedy
After the study of my first research genre, for the second, I would like to focus on comedy. There are many popular and loved comedic movies in the present day, such as Deadpool & Wolverine, Inside Out 2, and even Despicable Me. These types of movies are loved and known as they catch the eyes of many viewers and fit the styles and interests as well. Although many comedy movies have many different storylines, they all have quite the same amount of formats and elements, such as their sound effects, CAMS, CLAMPS, and editing styles. These elements of comedy movies are quite simple and different from other genres. The comedic genre uses the basic techniques of CAMS, such as the push-in, the pull-out, and even the reveal shot. After studying comedy films, it's clear they share several common techniques and elements that make them instantly recognizable. In terms of CAMS, comedy often relies on push-ins, pull-outs, and reveal shots to enhance comedic timing and surprise. The CLAMPS in comedy films are usually lighthearted, with bright, colorful costumes and settings that create a playful atmosphere. Acting tends to be exaggerated for comedic effect, and makeup is often used to exaggerate expressions. Editing in comedy is quick, with sharp cuts to maximize punchlines or reactions, while sound effects are used to emphasize humorous moments, like exaggerated footsteps or cartoonish noises. Movies like Deadpool, Inside Out 2, and Despicable Me are perfect examples of mixing humor with adventure. I love the simplicity and timing of these techniques, especially how well they build humor, though I’d avoid overusing slapstick elements that might feel forced. Instead, I’d aim for more subtle humor with sharper character development.
