Intro Blog

 

My name is Shanice Antoinette Ferguson, and I am a Haitian Bahamian 16-year-old senior at Fort Lauderdale High School. My mother is fully Haitian and speaks both French and Creole, while my father is fully Bahamian and speaks broken English. I grew up in a household of 7 people including myself with one older brother, three younger sisters, and both my father and my mother. I was born and raised in Oakland Park, Florida, and I have lived there all my life. I was also partially raised in the Bahamas for a little bit while I was younger around 5-6 years. I was about 5,7 and 10 years old each time I visited the Bahamas and stayed for around 1-2 years each visit. Looking towards my future goals in life I wish to study and become an Aerospace Engineer and work within the projective group of NASA. I focus on becoming a high academic scholar in college to get the opportunity to work with Joseph W. Pellicciotti, the acting chief engineer at NASA. I am currently in the AICE program and am currently taking three AICE classes and 3 AP classes to try and boost my GPA. I focus on receiving the Bright Futures scholarship to help my parents pay for college funds. On the side of school, I am currently enrolled in dual enrollment and have a part-time job at Publix. My schedule has become very packed with sports, school, work, and after-school clubs, but in the end, it will all be worth it. With all this work I plan to attend my top schools and become the engineer I want to be. I have made a list of many schools I am willing to attend for college, such as UF (my main goal), UCF, FIT, FAU, and MIT. I try to focus and put all my work into getting into any of these schools to accomplish my goal of becoming a full-time engineer at NASA or with Aircraft Services. More into my daily life, I am also a high school athlete. I have played girls' varsity soccer for four years straight and have become co-captain for my last and final year on the team. I also play club soccer as well for Fort Lauderdale Rush FC in Oakland Park. Some other hobbies I do include painting, mentoring, singing, and coding. These extra hobbies help me to focus and relax when times are rough or when I do not have much work to do. They keep me busy and occupied for most of the time.
