I am excited about making this film because the concept of a funny scene joining a secret government organization with a darkly comedic tone has a lot of potential for both action and humor. The mix of Men in Black’s alien-hunting movie and Deadpool's comedy, self-aware attitude would allow me to explore themes of identity and secrecy within many unknown organizations. It has many possibilities for visually dynamic, high-stakes action sequences combined with sharp humor, which would make it appealing to a wide audience. On the other hand, crafting a character with the right balance of humor, charm, and tough-guy persona would require careful writing and performance. There’s also the potential challenge of making the alien encounters fresh, without resorting to overly familiar tropes. However, I am confident that this could be a fun, action-packed film with a unique spin on the genre with the right creative team. While Pitch 2 is intriguing, it feels a bit more familiar, as it draws from the Wolverine franchise with its focus on an antihero mutant grappling with his violent nature and past. I do enjoy stories that explore the inner conflict of a tortured hero, but this particular pitch would require careful handling to avoid falling into repetitive tropes. The story’s potential for deep emotional arcs and action could be compelling, especially with the right cast, but there’s a risk of leaning too heavily into dark, gritty themes without the levity that audiences sometimes crave. A secret government agency recruits a snarky, rogue mercenary with a mysterious past to hunt down rogue alien creatures hiding among us, blending dark humor and action-packed sequences. I decided to move forward with Pitch 1 because it offers a fresh, dynamic take on the genre by combining action, humor, and sci-fi elements in a way that feels less formulaic. The appeal of a rogue, wisecracking protagonist allows for creative freedom in storytelling and character development, while also ensuring that the film won’t take itself too seriously. In contrast to Pitch 2, which has more of a traditional tortured antihero arc, Pitch 1 offers room for quirky alien encounters and comedic situations that could bring a unique flavor to the genre. The film could appeal to fans of Men in Black’s secretive, high-energy world, as well as Deadpool’s irreverent humor. Plus, the freedom to inject humor into action scenes makes it a more versatile and potentially more commercially viable project.
