Title design

Image
Font tone:         For our title design, our group wanted a very settled and sneaky title design throughout the beginning credits. Since our final task is based on mystery and adventure, we wanted the title to be hidden but bold enough for the audience to see. The three types of fonts we considered were Pink Panther, Six Feet Under, and Snatch.  1. 2. 3. Contrast :       We didn't want the movie title to be super flashy or super noticeable, so we decided to keep the contrast low and stick to basic title colors such as black, grey, white, and maybe blue.  Size :       Our group has discussed that the title shouldn't be super noticeable and should be kind of concealed and later revealed as the scene continues. We thought that the size of the font should start at around 24 and later be enhanced to size 60 or 70 . We think it is better to start small so the title doesn't interrupt the actions in the scene and distrac...

Other Info about our Final Task

Image
Our final task includes more details about the participants, the filming and editing process, as well as health and safety. The film centers around a group of female spies who are trying to figure out why everything is going wrong. The mystery takes days, or even years, to solve, but will these clever teenage girls manage to crack the case? Natalia is our lead actress in the final task, playing herself as the brains behind the operation. Her character brings serious energy (and plenty of laughs) to every scene throughout the film. Christelle also plays herself and is the second lead. She is the type of spy who is always unforgettable within the trio. Her character is full of sass and tech-savvy skills. She’s always ready with a joke or to crack a case, sometimes doing both at the same time. Finally, there’s me, Shanice, playing myself as the daring, action-oriented spy who loves grappling hooks and making surprise entrances. My character is very fashion-forward, knowing when to fight o...

L ocation: Park – A quiet picnic area with a playground in the background Natalia walking up with a coffee cup, wearing sunglasses “Okay, team, I’ve analyzed the data. Whoever’s hacking global tech has to be close. My guess? They’re hiding in plain sight.” Christelle sitting on the bench, flipping through a magazine that turns out to be a holographic scanner “Hiding in plain sight? So you’re saying our big villain is probably feeding ducks right now?” Shanice appears out of nowhere, dropping from a tree branch “Or they could be watching us while we feed into their trap. Did anyone check their coffee for nano-trackers?” Natalia snorts, shaking her cup “Just caffeine, no conspiracies. Let’s split up and check the park perimeter.” Location: Local Road – A bustling intersection with a tech billboard flashing ads. Date: January 19 Shanice riding a bike while scanning the billboard with a high-tech device “Confirmed. Someone’s using this billboard as a relay point. I’ve got interferen...

Movie research: Kung Fu Panda

Image
What conventions of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have? "Kung Fu Panda" incorporates several key conventions of the comedy genre, primarily through its use of humor based on exaggerated situations, quirky characters, and physical comedy. The movie’s central protagonist, Po, is an unlikely hero, which provides ample opportunity for both slapstick and situational comedy. The interactions between Po and the other characters, especially Master Shifu and the Furious Five, often lead to comedic moments driven by misunderstandings, awkwardness, and exaggerated reactions. The film also balances its humor with heartwarming moments that highlight personal growth and friendship, typical of family-oriented comedies. What conventions of the genre did the movie have that you liked? One of the things I loved about "Kung Fu Panda" is how it blends physical comedy with clever dialogue. Po’s clumsiness and unintentional antics provide a lot of ...

The use of cliffhangers and sudden plot twists heightened the thrill and kept me hooked from s...

Genre Decision

Image
It has come to our final conclusion of what genre we would like to use in our final task project. My teammates and I have discussed and concluded that Action Comedy would be the best genre to use within our project. We chose this genre because we believed that it could entertain the audience the most with a great opening and its upbeat energy, and consistency of movement. Fiction Action was the best choice to use as it didn't have too many negatives and could catch the eyes of the viewers very quickly. We believed that this type of fiction would help us to create a sense of deep development in our characters and their actions within each scene. The creative freedom, exploration, entertainment, and dramatic storytelling would make this a great opening scene within our final task, as it provides us with many fantastical concepts.

Genre Research: Comedy

Image
After the study of my first research genre, for the second, I would like to focus on comedy. There are many popular and loved comedic movies in the present day, such as Deadpool & Wolverine, Inside Out 2, and even Despicable Me. These types of movies are loved and known as they catch the eyes of many viewers and fit the styles and interests as well. Although many comedy movies have many different storylines, they all have quite the same amount of formats and elements, such as their sound effects, CAMS, CLAMPS, and editing styles. These elements of comedy movies are quite simple and different from other genres. The comedic genre uses the basic techniques of CAMS, such as the push-in, the pull-out, and even the reveal shot. After studying comedy films, it's clear they share several common techniques and elements that make them instantly recognizable. In terms of CAMS, comedy often relies on push-ins, pull-outs, and reveal shots to enhance comedic timing and surprise. The CLAMPS i...

Genre Research: Fiction Action

Image
Fiction action films are all about high energy and excitement, and certain techniques define the genre. Common camera work includes quick cuts, dynamic angles, and intense close-ups, often paired with fast-paced editing to maintain tension. The costumes are typically practical, like superhero suits or military gear, and the lighting is usually harsh with lots of contrast to highlight action. Sound plays a huge role, with explosive effects and intense music adding to the adrenaline rush. Films like Die Hard, The Dark Knight, and John Wick are perfect examples, showcasing fast-paced sequences, epic stunts, and larger-than-life characters. What I love about action films is the thrill and how dynamic the camera work and editing can be, which I’d use in my own work. However, the over-the-top acting and predictability can sometimes detract from the experience, so I’d focus on more grounded characters and avoid too many clichés or unnecessary explosions.

Genre Research: Thriller

Image
Today, I started my genre research journey on different types of thriller movies. I wanted to start in a broad and popular area to find the most common and familiar movements and shots used in these types of movies, such as the movie Smile and The Conjuring. After I embarked on my journey, I was able to notice many common types of camera angles, movement, different types of props, and more. I became quite aware that some common angles and shots used were high and low angles, wide shots, and close-ups. These types of CAMS are commonly used to show how the character feels in certain areas or spaces; it also emphasizes each character's features and background to understand what is happening. Another thing that many thrillers have in common is their CLAMPS and editing styles. Parallel editing, cutaways, flashbacks, linear narrative, and match cuts are editing techniques that are used within thriller movies. A lot of these different types of editing forms are used to connect the movie a...

Pitch Blog

Image
I am excited about making this film because the concept of a funny scene joining a secret government organization with a darkly comedic tone has a lot of potential for both action and humor. The mix of Men in Black’s alien-hunting movie and Deadpool's comedy, self-aware attitude would allow me to explore themes of identity and secrecy within many unknown organizations. It has many possibilities for visually dynamic, high-stakes action sequences combined with sharp humor, which would make it appealing to a wide audience. On the other hand, crafting a character with the right balance of humor, charm, and tough-guy persona would require careful writing and performance. There’s also the potential challenge of making the alien encounters fresh, without resorting to overly familiar tropes. However, I am confident that this could be a fun, action-packed film with a unique spin on the genre with the right creative team. While Pitch 2 is intriguing, it feels a bit more familiar, as ...
